How to Keep Your Active Lifestyle While Traveling
Traveling can be full of excitement and future memories. The only thing is when traveling you fall off your routine. This is okay more than half the time of course. We deserve to rest from time to time, but if we have specific fitness or health goals it can be valuable to learn how to do so while traveling. I have gone on many different trips throughout my life. Some have been more active than others, and the ones where I found the time to be active while vacationing were when I came back from my trip feeling better and more alive! It is okay if your vacation is too crazy to hit the gym, we have all been there, but fitness does not just mean lifting weights!

Here are some times to maintain your active lifestyle! Let's go!
Pack Smart
If you know that your hotel has a gym maybe bring some workout clothes and shoes just in case your schedule allows you to hit the gym! Maybe wake up a half hour earlier to get a good sweat session in! You don't even need a hotel gym, you could do it inside your hotel room. The skies are truly the limit. I sometimes back resistance bands and look on YouTube for fun full-body-no-equipment workouts! You could also use hotel chairs for hip-thrust, step-ups, and incline pushups, just get creative!
2. Make Fitness Part of Your Journey
Instead of Ubering everywhere maybe try walking if it is close enough too. I am not suggesting hiking on a two-lane highway to get there! Be smart about it of course. You could also look up hiking trails if you are near some nature. You'd be surprised how many steps you can get in a day just wandering around! If you are near a beach maybe rent a bike for a day to explore the town. You could also rent a kayak, paddle boarding, or swim in the hotel pool.
Stay Active During Transit
You know those long layovers where you don't have much to do but scroll on Instagram and see if Fittwithmaddie posted anything new lol! Try walking instead, go explore your terminal, and get some steps in. Maybe try stretching for a little bit to reduce stiffness during those long travel days.
If you are driving you can use those rest stops to do a quick walk or stretch to help lose your upper body and legs. Maybe add in a few squats and lunges! When driving I find that helps break up the driving a bit and helps keep me loose. I sometimes try to look around to see if there are any fun stops my companions and I could make to explore and walk around a bit. Of course, this doesn't work the best if you are on a time crunch. If you are just stick to walking into the gas station and not parking so close to the door!
Eat Mindfully
While moving is super beneficial for the body what we consume is just as if not more important. It can be hard to say no to the candy at the truck stops or even the airport. Healthier road food can sometimes cost an arm and a leg and not be the freshest! Try packing some healthy snacks before your road trip or flight. Take some protein bars, nuts, fruit, unbuttered popcorn, yogurt(if you are in the car, most airports won't let you take it onto the plane), veggies, jerky, etc. These can help keep you fuel without causing you to have a huge crash later!
Make sure you stay hydrated! If you are road tripping make sure to bring multiple water bottles and maybe a soda or sparkling beverage! If you are flying, bring your refillable water bottle so you can fill it up on the plane. Tip if you live in the States: you can fill your water bottle up with ice before TSA. Just make sure there's no liquid in it! I suggest trying to drink from your water bottle full of ice before going through TSA just to make sure you have no liquid going through it so you don't get flagged.
The biggest piece of advice I could ever give you is to treat yourself in moderation. Enjoy the local cuisine and eat some treats. Just remember that balance indulgences with healthier meals! For example: when I go to any Disney Resort I love their desserts. I suggest sharing some of those sweets with a friend or family member. Try to pack some healthier snacks or plan some healthier meals around the resort. Maybe instead of that side of fries get the cutie so you can enjoy some ice cream later. The nice thing about Disney trips for me is you do so much walking so you get those steps in without thinking of it!
While these tips might not be anything new to you or keep you from losing weight. They can definitely help you maintain your weight and help you not stress so much over your fitness progress and goals. Vacations are meant to be relaxing and to take care of yourself. Keeping moving and fueling yourself is one of the best ways to take care of yourself!
